Justice
Ch. Omega's Verdict Is In,
JH, WCX
Ch. Omega's Quiet Riot x Ch.
Athercroft If Rooks Could Kill
By Frank Holbert
Justice came to live
with me when he was 7 months of age, we started field training the next weekend. For
months, Justice was great at taking a line to a bird but would always miss the distance
and start hunting 50, even 100 yards past the fall. If Justice didn't see or smell the
bird as he went by it at full speed we were usually out. Justice would look back at us
from 200 yards, then forget why we were there (but he sure liked to run). We always passed
on the water because Justice had to slow down. Slowing down keep Justice from out running
his adolescent brain. It wasn't because of lack of effort but, after 11 attempts at Junior
Hunter Justice got his JH title. Had this been my first dog in the Hunt Test program I
might have been discouraged. But, I found it kind of funny.
We started training for Senior Hunter running handling drills 5 days a week. Justice's
marking improved dramatically, he was running cold triples with the Master dogs but,
didn't understand the concept of handling. About two weeks before Justice's second
birthday we went training like we did every weekend. It was like I had the wrong dog. The
light had gone on! Not only was justice running the Master marks, He was running the
blinds. I was really wishing we were at a test that day because this was the best I had
ever seen Justice run. Little did I know the Flat-Coat gods had given Justice the other
half of his brain the night before. This was to be the 'norm' from now on.
Two weeks later we ran his first Senior test. No only did Justice pass, I was very proud
of the job he did. Later, one of the judges told me Justice was the only Senior dog to
hold the line to the water blind. Not only did Justice earn his first Senior ribbon that
weekend. One of my other dogs earned his last Master ribbon, my first MH, and Justice's
father went Best In Show!! It was a good weekend for everybody.
