Racer by Mark Hacker Halloween 1997 will be a day we will always remember thanks to a beautiful flat coated boy named Racer. It was a sad time for us since we had just lost our 13-year-old Labrador, Kona to cancer. We found out about the Flat Coated Fun Day and said "lets go see some Flat Coats". We arrived in Santa Ana and met many happy Flat Coats and their owners. It was amazing to see 20-25 dogs so well behaved, so many wagging tails and so many owners so passionate about the breed. We talked to several people and then the games began. We met Adrienne and Frank and talked about puppies. Then Brent asked me if I would like to handle Hunter in the "Doggie Wet T Shirt Contest". I was astounded that a dog I did not even know would allow me to put a wet T-shirt over his head. We enjoyed ourselves at the Fun Day and contacted Adrienne two weeks later. Betsy was due with two puppies and they were spoken for so Adrienne mentioned that they had a two-year-old boy if we were interested. We visited Racer and decided he was perfect for us (or should I say Racer decided we were perfect for him)! On Halloween, Betsys two puppies were born and Mr. Racer came home with us. He is like his mother Betsy since he is a "recreational retriever". He will deliver anything to hand with his favorites being the ball, Kong and bones. He is arguably the most comical flat coat you have ever met with a wide range of expressions and a curiosity that extends to anything and everything. He is also like his sister Kelly (Ch. Sterling Omega Affection) since he never sleeps on the bed (HA)!Suffice it to say, like all flat coat parents, we are proud of our boy and love him very much. He is a truly a member of our family, which makes him and both of us very happy. Owner: Mark Hacker Breeder: Adrienne Ayles and Peachie Orton Updated 11/22/98 |
